BANYAN COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL TUTOR
Tutor a high school student in Banyan’s ASPIRE! program. Banyan provides scholarships for nine youth to attend DeLaSalle High School. The homework is intense and the students need specialized tutors that can help them succeed. These youth need your help and need to get to know you as you share with them your academic skill, college experience, and how that all helped you succeed and obtain a job that you enjoy.
This is an especially great opportunity for recent college grads or anyone who remembers some of the math formulas from high school! Areas of particular need include: Algebra One and Two, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and Calculus, French and Spanish, Biology, English and History. The youth are required to come to tutoring twice a week at the Banyan: Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:45 PM–8:45 PM. At least three tutors are needed each evening, September through June. Choose a night that works for you and come on down!

When ex-offenders ask what makes a successful reentry, one answer that is often heard is having a positive person in their life. A mentor walks with this person by spending time together, listening, being supportive, offering ideas and life experience, maintaining healthy boundaries, and meeting consistently. Supportive relationships can make the difference in reducing the rate of recidivism. Make a difference in the life of a man or woman by becoming a mentor for an ex-offender.
