In her book, Learning to Walk in the Dark, Barbara Brown Taylor poses this question: “What can light possibly mean without dark?” It seems fitting that this passage describing the 'good news of great joy' regarding Jesus' arrival first invites us to acknowledge that people are sitting in darkness. Take a moment to reflect on the places of darkness in your own life at the start of this Advent. Where do you feel lost or weighed-down or unable to see the road ahead? Would you be willing to invite Jesus into those places with you? What invitations might be waiting in the dark?
